New Visions, Smart Choices - New Report

Over the past few years here at Carpe Diem West we’ve been lucky enough to work with some really smart, determined water leaders in the American West. Their stories and work all tell us this: Yes, climate change is overwhelming and scares the hell out of us, and yes, we can do things now to build a more water secure future and protect our rivers.

We’ll be sharing with you some remarkable success stories when we roll out a new report, New Vision, Smart Choices - Western Water Security in a Changing Climate, on March 26. We’re going to take a look at successful, sustainable and economically sensible steps ten communities - urban and rural - are taking to make sure they will have water in the decades to come.

Some are linking healthy farm practices with the health of the local water supply, others are leaders in urban water conservation, some are harnessing the power of nature to protect and treat water supplies while others are protecting the forests that are the source of their water from catastrophic wildfires

All of these stories have common themes: the community recognized that it was facing a crisis; many people started working together; using the best science available they came up with solutions that made sense for their communities; they looked for ways they could also protect the natural environment; and, they put their plans into action.

We’ll be presenting this report at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco in just three weeks – and we’ll be sharing the report with all of you.  I hope you find it as inspiring as we do!
