Aurora Water Endorses 2015 Healthy Headwaters Policy Platform

In November of 2015 we released an updated 2015 Healthy Headwaters Policy Platform, along with a companion piece on the criteria we’ll use to assess proposed legislation or policies. While the Healthy Headwaters Alliance does not advocate for specific legislation, as opportunities arise we do use our criteria to provide thoughtful commentary to interested parties.

The Healthy Headwaters Alliance’s 2011 Federal Policy Platform helped inform the recently introduced bi-partisan Restoring America’s Watersheds Act co-sponsored by Senators Flake (R- Arizona) and Heinrich (D- New Mexico.)

The updated Platform identifies three frameworks for new policies that could be enacted in a fairly short period of time by making:

  1. Long-term watershed health a priority
  2. Smarter choices on how state and federal fire suppression funds are spent
  3. Smart responses post-catastrophic flooding and fires (and avoiding them in the first place)

The Healthy Headwaters leadership team worked diligently on this update and it a great honor to have their work endorsed by Aurora Water.
